The easiest part of the writing process is inspiration. When it’s there, the words flow like a raging river. If the story is in my head and I’ve been tapped by my muse (and she stays with me), I can write a novel in a week. The hardest part of the writing process is inspiration.Mar 30, 2012

What is the hardest thing about writing?

First, writing is inherently difficult. Even for the best writers, putting thoughts down on paper in a cogent, coherent way takes a lot of energy, patience and time. Second, as I mentioned earlier, the college essay requires a completely different sort of writing than most high school students are used to.
There are a lot of reasons. Many students wait to start writing them until the last minute — and it's hard to do anything well that way. A bigger problem is that college essays seem to ask us to Be Remarkable, Also, teenagers writing an essay for adults want to show they can use adult words.
Boring, dry (usually formulaic) writing arises when the writer uses too many vague, general words and doesn't vary her sentences. Vague words in general (see what I did there?) don't engage the reader, and unvaried sentences causes the writing to become predictable. And predictable writing is, well, boring.Dec 14, 2015

The biggest reason writing an essay is so hard is because we mostly focus on those external rewards like getting a passing grade, winning our teacher's approval, or just avoiding accusations of plagiarism. Instead, write an interesting essay, write an essay you think is fascinating.
