Writing the Topic Outline
- Write out your thesis at the top of the page.
- Make a list of points you must prove to prove your thesis.
- On a new page, write your first main point.
- Make a list of the points you have to prove to prove that point.
- These are your sub-points for that section.
Outline: Five Elements
- The protagonist and his or her goal.
- The supporting cast and what they each want.
- The five major plot points.
- The order of events, sequences, and act divisions.

- Write your argument in one sentence at the top of the page – you'll flesh this out into your introduction.
- Write three or four key points that you think will support your argument.
- Under each point, write down one or two examples from your research that support your point.
